Lauhala, the traditional Hawaiian art of weaving leaves from the Hala tree, holds profound cultural significance in Hawaii. This intricate craft symbolizes the Hawaiian values of resilience, sustainability, and interconnectedness.

Lauhala weaving, passed down through generations, is a narrative of the Hawaiian way of life, emphasizing the importance of preserving traditions and living in harmony with nature. The patterns in lauhala weavings often carry symbolic meanings, telling stories of the islands and their people, and are used in various practical and ceremonial objects, embodying the spirit of 'ohana (family) and the Aloha spirit. This art form celebrates the deep connection of the Hawaiian people to their land and heritage, making it a vital and revered cultural practice.

About the Artist

Manny is located on the Big Island of Hawaii and all of his pieces are personally created by him on the Island. He has been around woodworking for the last 20 years of his life.  Inspired by his grandfather who would always be in his shop making crafts to sell at the market, he would help him occasionally with sanding wood. Manny's father eventually learned the craft from his grandfather, and Manny is now perpetuating the craft for his ohana.
